I joined ACLC a few months into my freshman year after transferring from Encinal. I will never forget the first time I walked through the old centers door.

I was still a student at Encinal, and it was a lunch time. My friend, Jenny. was giving me a quick look. I just had to see if her crazy stories were true, was it actually possible for a school to be as chaotic and engaging as she claimed? I found that she had lied, it was some much better than she had described.

When I walked through those doors I had to fight against a flood of learners pouring out the door. Once I finally made it inside I was awestruck. My jaw hit the ground as I looked around at the life and beauty that plastered ACLC's walls.

With a little effort I made my way to the quiet area where I saw the one thing that made me fall in love with this school. It was a debate club that met during lunch. They were rampantly arguing over which color was better red or blue.

I had no personal interest of joining the debate club, that wasn't what interested me. It was the energy and passion that the learners had. They were excited to be where they were and to do what they were doing. When I saw that kind of joy and energy I know that there was a chance that I could actually enjoy school again.
